This really resonated with me…I’ve been in the process of downloading everything in my Evernote account (so I can delete the acct) and restructuring my computer files based on a version of Tiago Forte’s PARA organization. The WHY is what I keep coming back to…and how I can make my files more usable then just storage. That’s what I realize I was doing with Evernote…just paying for a fancy storage system. I am very visual, so I also have a ton of screenshots in my iPhoto that I try to organize as well…I tend to look at those more often…but the WHY is what I need to reflect more on. Some of it triggers ideas to use in my life, art, and work…some of it is just hoarding digital info.

I found Tiago’s system didn’t exactly work for me, so I’ve started creating my own system… have you seen my other post? https://open.substack.com/pub/jscreative/p/how-to-build-a-personal-knowledge

I did! That popped up on my feed and I read that first. Yeah, I have modified Tiago’s and I’m still evolving, but at least now I have just two main places, my computer folders and my iPhoto…well and now using the Notes app as an inbox for misc notes instead of Evernote. That has been a huge change for me…i started in 2012 with Evernote…closing that down has been a process, but I feel better for simplifying my systems.

That’s awesome! I’ve still got too many places, but my main two are Notion and Obsidian.

Notes are the foundation for all my writing ideas! I absolutely love them. What's interesting is that, like most things, my note-taking has become more efficient over time. I now use fewer words, relying on simple cues to quickly reconnect with the idea.

PS… would love to hear more about those “cues”! And any other tips you might wanna share!

Sure, I've started simplifying my notes down to just a few key words or phrases. For example, one of my notes says 'Idea-Execution-Growth' and another says 'Notes - Everything is about Execution.' From those simple cues in my Google Keep app, I can easily recall the full idea I had at the time and expand it into a post or additional notes.

I used to spend a lot of time refining and perfecting the note before I even got started on writing, but now I focus more on getting the idea out quickly. The beauty of this approach is that it leaves room for creative, outside-the-box thinking — almost like a flexible structure. Hope that makes sense!

Wow, that’s really interesting. I wonder if my brain would be able to work with that method… though, I doubt it. I have ADHD, so I tend to be pretty forgetful, which is why the whole concept of a “second brain” has been so compelling for me. 🤪 lol. I love that you found a system that works for you!

That’s great! I’m just starting to learn how to turn the content I save and make notes on into content I can share!
